Vessel Registration Department
The Liberian Registry is open to any ship owner in the world and accepts any type of vessel so long as it meets the Registry standards. The pre-registration formalities are user friendly, designed to meet international standards in relation to safety and documentation and to protect the interest of owners/buyers registering their vessels in Liberia. In order to enter the Liberian Registry a vessel must be less than 20 years of age and must meet safety standards of the Registry. The requirements, applications and forms required for entering the Registry along with self-explanatory guidelines are available under the Registration Procedures tab. Applications and forms are also available under the Online Library tab.
Liberia permits registration of vessels under construction, newbuildings and transferring from other flags. It permits registration of vessels involved in international, coastal or domestic trading as well as all types of off-shore vessels and vessels in lay-up. In addition to registration where Liberia is the sole flag, dual flag registration on bareboat charter-in or bareboat charter-out basis is also permitted by the Liberian law.
Registration staff at the Central Office of the Deputy Commissioner in New York and staff at the LISCR Regional Offices are available to assist with the registration process and to explain all procedures.
