New head of certification for Liberian Registry

 

CAPT James Walsh has been appointed Vice-President and Department Head of Seafarers’Certification and Documentation by the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry, theUS-based manager of the Liberian Registry. He joins from Universal Systems & Technologies, a contractor to the US government, where he served as a senior manager and was responsible for a wide range of safety and security-related transportation projects both in the United States and internationally.

In a varied career to date, Capt Walsh has served as an accident investigator for the US
National Transportation Safety Board, was a Vice-President at Carnival Cruise Lines, and enjoyed a seagoing career which culminated in service as master on a variety of vessels, including tankers and refrigerated cargo ships.

The Seafarer's Department is a key contributor to the successful operation of the Liberian Registry. It is responsible for certifying and documenting all officers and ratings who sail on board Liberian-registered ships, and issues Seafarer Identification and Record Books, special qualification certificates and all officer certificates. It also operates the innovative SEA System, the sophisticated computerised programme which allows agents to email all applications for seafarer documents, and brings a wealth of benefits to the Registry’s clients worldwide.
